IBC Seismic Compliance
Structural resistance to the potentially destructive forces of an earthquake has long been a design criterion for buildings. The new International Building Code (IBC) adds a key dimension: maintaining the use of designated life safety systems in certain building types immediately after a seismic event.
The design professional is responsible for identifying whether mechanical equipment, including HVAC, must meet the same seismic design category as the structure.
